GRAINNEBINNS: 8 Tips For Shopping On A Budget

8 Tips For Shopping On A Budget

00:23

Being a student and having very little money to splurge on clothes each month i know how real the struggle is to have nice clothes, shoes, hair and make up, nails, brows, lashes etc etc. without much money however it is achievable when you are wise about your shopping, so here is my top 8 tips for shopping on a budget..

1. Sales

So this one is quite an obvious one, I know. Personally, I'm not the type of person to get up early just for a certain sale or wait in large queues and i have an extremely thin patience for sale racks, however, i think online sales are great. My favorite website for a sale has got to be ASOS, most of the clothes in their sales is still really fresh and up to date and the prices are nearly half of what they used to be. Sales are extremely great for seasonal clothing e.g. Swimwear and coats and jackets because you can buy the items at majorly discounted rates and save it for the next time the season comes round!

2. Depop
I think at this stage most people are familiar with depop, however for those of you who aren't, depop is an app which allows people to buy and sell clothing. I love depop because it allows you to find some really unique pieces for cheap prices and some sellers are even open to swaps in which you switch an item of clothing for another, which is a really cheap and cool way to refresh your wardrobe.

3. Markets
I love markets for a similar reason I love depop so much, most things you buy at a market you will not find anywhere else and its a really great way to find some vintage gems at a fraction of there original price. A market is great too because its a day out, especially in the summer, because there is nothing worse than being stuck inside a shopping centre when the sun is shining and its warm out (rare occacsion in ireland).

4. Make a List
I know this is not the weekly food shop we're discussing here, but i truly believe this works. Set yourself a clear idea on what it is you need from the shopping trip. There has been so many times i've gotten home and realised I came home with nothing i needed and a lot of random unneccessary items, so before you start shopping take a look in the wardobe to see whats missing and base your purchases around that, i know in the moment this one can be totally tricky but buy what you need first and at the end of the day if the budget allows buy the other things you dont necessarily need. Treat yoself!!!

5. Set yourself a budget
Before you go shopping set yourself a budget to stop yourself overspending on a day of shopping. Its very rarely that i have time myself to devote an entire day to shopping (sadly) so when you're just picking things up here and there overspending becomes far too easy, so what i tend to do is set myself a monthly budget for clothes and as soon as i've hit the number anything else has to wait until my next pay day.

6. Discount Codes & Cards
This one is a huge help, i know spam emails are totally annoying but a lot of the time there is discount codes thrown in which people miss. Also, for anyone like myself who is a student, UNIDAYS offer some great dicount codes for so many great sites like ASOS, Missguided, Public Desire etc. and of course you can use a student card in most stores now too!

7. Steal the Style
So basically what i mean by this is most hight street stores have similar styles of clothing, especially when it comes down to basics like T Shirts, hoodies, Trousers etc. but some are at much higher prices. A few of my favourite shops for grabbing a bargain are Forever21, Newlook, ASOS and Penneys. This is so important to because trends and styles fade and sadly every year or every few years so many clothes are thrown out! So whats the point in splurging for day to day use?

8. Know when to splash the cash
The whole way through this post I have talked about spending as little money as possible and still achieving a stylish look but sometimes it is important to spend a little more than usual to prevent further spending, for example on jackets and shoes and bags, these are items on the outside, that we use very frequently if not every day so to me it's more important that they're durable and going to last!
