INSTAREAL
16:12
I am a huge fan of Instagram, in fact, I would definitely go as far as saying it is my number one social media go to. Being into fashion, styling, make up etc. Instagram is an amazing platform for me and people like me to express personal style to a much larger audience than just Dublin or just my facebook friends. Instagram has given rise to the "influencer" much more than any other form of social media and given people the opportunity to build a career from their profiles in something they love. HOWEVER (rant alert), I can't help but desire a little Instareal from time to time. I am well aware that for a lot of people an Instagram feed is almost like a piece of art and there is some pictures that could just never make the cut in fear of messing up the feed and of course we all want to present the best version of ourselves online rather than the worst version, I am even guilty of it myself. So I guess what I mean is there are some feeds which look like Pinterest boards, all this marble and rose gold jewellery with some petals or flowers laid out perfectly beside a set of lacy underwear that you've been sent for free that you'll later sell on depop captioned "brand new with tags". It's gotten to the stage where each day at a certain time I can guess who is going to post. I get it, peak times throughout the day, people want maximum likes, but really is it oh so necessary every day?
I realise I probably sound a bit sour, but I think this annoys me so much because I am human and I know everyone else posting on instagram is too. Nobody looks or feels drop dead gorgeous every day, there are days where I don't shower and stay in my pj's all day, days when I don't wear makeup, days when I eat pizza, days when I feel fat, I think you get my point here. I have posted pictures on some occasions on those days because I think it is important to show people that my life is not a Pinterest board & it's nowhere near perfect & I think I appreciate people's feeds more when they make it clear that they like me are not perfect all the time.
I think it's especially important in such a digital age, people are using social media from younger and younger ages all the time, as the older one's I think we need to be the one's to teach them that life is more important than how perfect you are on social media and that your self-worth should come from more than the amount of followers you have or likes you get on social media!
Here's some of my own instareal moments!
Proof that I'm a mess sometimes... (most of the time)
Proof I eat bad food sometimes
Showing that there is more to life than perfectly styled outfits with a perect pose to go with!
I go to college, I work part time in retail, i get stressed...
Showing off the people in my life that I love and care about!
I don't always wear make up and sometimes I am hungover!
I get that not everyone may be as open as me, I am a pretty out there person but I also feel the things I want to keep private I still can without being a pinterest board of a person! I also totally appreciate if people disagree with me on this entire post but I just thought I would share my views. I love a personality with some style inspiration. Show off your originality don't be just another instagal!
