Personal Style!
03:10
As someone who is into fashion, one question I am not shy to is "Describe your personal style?" and I swear I can literally never answer it without having to pause for like 10 minutes and then still struggle. Despite finding it difficult to put my personal style into a series of words or one particular category, I know I definitely have my own personal style and really found my style from about 14+ when I just stopped caring what people thought of me. Personal style is something which I think is so important for everyone to have so I've decided to write about how I got my personal style to where it is today and what is important to keep in mind when trying to find your own personal style.
1. Be YOU
I know I probably sound completely cheesy here, but fashion and style is a form of expression. A lot of the time you can tell what type of person someone is based on the clothes they are wearing (even if we shouldn't judge a book by it's cover) So let your clothes speak for you....

Me aged 15, telling the world I'm completely insane it seems... |
2. Stop caring what other people think
For me, this was a big thing, as soon as I let go of caring I really found my style, even if it did mean that people thought I was a total freak and felt it necessary to yell at me on the street and let me know (teenage girls are mean, and being 14-16 and being different is hard)

yes, my hair is blue.... 3. Take Risks some things in fashion work and others go horribly wrong, you never know until you try and you will always learn from your previous mistakes! |

let's ignore the fact that my Mam said this didn't match on the day and I still thought I looked fabulous.... |
4. Be Inspired
Once again I know I sound totally cheesy, however, what I mean by this is take inspiration from others, back in the olden days before instagram was literally LIFE, getting inspiration was all about picking up the latest issue of vogue or even kiss (what happened to kiss?) and then figuring out how a 14 year old me could recreate the runways latest looks with my €20 pocket money I got once a month. These days I adore a good creep on instagram (who doesn't?) not only can you see what the runway has to offer and what all the celebs are wearing without having to even leave bed but it also showcases all the amazing style everyday users have. These are my fave accounts to draw some inspo from, especially other Irish gals! All of this being said, it is still important to be original and put your own twist on things you have been inspired by, nobody likes a copycat.

5. Mix It Up
I think a lot of people focus too much on sticking to one style because maybe they are afraid to take risks or so, but I think it is important to mix things up a little, as I have said before my festival style and day to day style are totally different, but it is fun to mess around with clothes and make up and hair.

6. Confidence is Key
If you believe you look fabulous, what else really matters. This was big for me, at age 16 I lost a lot of confidence and lost pretty much all sense of style I had spent constructing for the previous 2-4 years. I wore pretty much nothing but baggy T-shirts and leggings. As soon as I got my confidence back I was back to my old self in crazy prints and colors!

7. Have Fun
My final point is to just enjoy fashion and style, clothes are so much fun all the time, as the saying goes "Life's a Catwalk". Knowing your style won't happen overnight, as I said at the start of this post, I still don't know 100% what my personal style is, I am still young and fashion is constantly changing.
